Kayla & Matthew: A Gilded Bride Story

Kayla & Matthew: A Gilded Bride Story

Kayla and Matthew had the classic coastal wedding of our DREAMS. They mixed thoughtful, personalized details (like signature cocktails named after their dogs!) with an elegant, neutral color palette. Throw in some amazing local seafood and you have the perfect party. Congrats to the newlyweds!

How would you describe the vibe of your wedding?

Nestled into a small Maryland eastern shore town at a classic historical hotel, the venue needed little to nothing to show off its charm. It was garden party met sophistication. The whimsical greens, neutral color palette, gold accents, Maryland crabcakes, and French macarons were the perfect fit for our venue.

What advice do you have for brides looking for their wedding dress?

It’s good to have an idea of what you think you want and what the ideal dress is, but have an open mind to try anything. Take 1-2 of your closest family or friends that know you best. My sister-in-law (matron of honor) picked out a dress I didn’t want to try on because it wasn’t “exactly” what I was looking for, it was the first dress I tried on, and that dress is my wedding dress! Enjoy the experience with those you love… as much as it can feel overwhelming, you’ll find the perfect dress when you’re least expecting it!

What made you fall in love with your dress?

The simplicity of my dress speaks volumes to who I am as a person, and I knew it was my dress as soon as I looked in the mirror. It fit like a glove in all of the right places, not too much detail but enough to make it unique in its own way, and it looked timeless and elegant on my wedding day. Perfection.

What did you love most about your wedding celebration? What are some of your favorite details or special moments?

We chose to have a first look before the ceremony, and that moment was so special to have time with no one else around, and truly be in the moment. To see Matt’s expression and feel the rush of emotion was a moment I will never forget.

The food was incredible and probably what will be talked about in 10 years when asked what people remember about our day. From the signature drinks named after our pups, “the Colt Remington” and “the Penelope Lou” to the incredible hors d’oeuvres (I still remember my face when I popped a chorizo stuffed date wrapped in bacon in my mouth). It was a weekend filled with maybe the best food I’ve had at a wedding.

The morning of getting ready – what a special memory to have. All of my girlfriends that stood by my side, moms, aunts, nieces; it was such a special time for all of us girls to be pampered by our amazing hair & makeup, play loud music, drink champagne and just celebrate!

What advice do you have for brides currently planning their wedding?

The wedding planning process can have you caught up in the smallest of details. I would know… that was me! Details down to what oyster shells went on who’s plate and what sprig of eucalyptus went into the napkin fold. Whatever your details are, they’re important because it’s your day.

Let me tell you – those details will not even cross your mind when you wake up on your wedding day! All I could think about was marrying the love of my life, and how special it was to have everyone we love in one place celebrating us. Try to relax, enjoy these exciting times because they fly by, and be in the moment – whether it’s a 10-minute dress fitting or preparing to walk down the aisle. You will love all of those memories no matter how big or small!
